How to vacation locally on a budget

Life can be a tough race to run.  We wake up every day with goals to accomplish, things we must do, people that need our help.  While we find fulfilling moments in life like the appreciation of our friends and successfully reaching our goals; it is still important to take a step away from the race and refuel.

Nascar teams utilize a pit strategy, and we feel like it is a perfect correlate to life and vacations.  Vacations are life's pit stops.  If we expect our bodies and minds to be competetive, it is required to take a Vacation.  Most of the time, taking a vacation is harder than not.

Planning vacations ahead of time can be just as helpful as planning a pit strategy before a race.  When we determine our vacation activity and destination ahead of time and when, we will have more choices with vacation rentals and have time to price compare and make educated decisions.

We have all heard the term 'Staycation', but has anyone successfully pulled off a 'Staycation' where they didn't get roped into work or get the sick feeling like they are playing hooky?  From our experiences a 'Staycation' is an invitation for a bad vacation.

What we need to do is unplug, get away from our normal surroundings.  Try something slightly different - Pick a destination within 1-2 hours driving time of where you live, find a vacation rental and get away for at least 4 days (3 nights).

For most regions in the United States, there are many attractions within that driving distance of where you live. A Lake, a Beach, a Mountain, a Valley, a City are all attractions within $60.00-$100.00 in gas and you can bring as many friends as you can fit in the rental and your car.

Just think about it, instead of driving to the lake for a day of fishing, rent that awesome house on the shore and stay there for a few nights.  General accomodations available with vacation rentals are far better than any hotel you may stay at, offer complete privacy and are priced for long term stays.  Splitting hotel rooms is a painful, uncomfortable to sleep in and no privacy, while splitting a house isn't.

It just makes sense to move your vacation closer.  You are still gone and far enough away to be somewhere completely new to you.  You'll save hundreds on travel costs, and if you pick a vacation rental with a natural attraction (like say a private beach on a lake), then you can save even more.

RentalSpot.com has many vacation rentals to choose from, why not find out what's near you?  Search for your home town by clicking on http://rentalspot.com and typing your location and then click Search.   You can use the Max. Distance filter found on the left of your results to increase how far away you are willing to travel from your location to rent a home.

Search local lakes, beaches, ski-resort areas.   A Staycation shouldn't mean you stayed in your back yard.  Get out and away to make that vacation a great one!
