The Costa del Sol stretches along just over 150 kilometres of Málaga province and is one of Spains most popular tourist destinations. Many towns have "paseo maritimos"- promenades that are popular with all ages. This is the area that is home to flamenco dancing, bullfights, orange groves, Moorish towns and whitewashed villages perched on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada. Benalmadena is a modern town built as an extension of the older towns of Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmadena Pueblo. It has a beautiful marina. Malaga enjoys one of the most pleasant climates in the world. Fuengirola is an older town but still have the attractions associated with a good holiday resort and a long seafront promenade. Ronda sits on the top of a plateau on either side of the plunging Tajo Gorge, one of the most remarkably situated places in the world. Mijas is another white village, famed for its donkey taxis. It has lovely craft shops, pottery and paintings are a really good buy. Marbella has always been successful in attracting upmarket guests. Great shopping and great for "people watching!" Torremolinos is a great shopping town for cheaper goods. La Carahuela region has some of the best fish restaurants of the Costa del Sol and a wonderful atmosphere. Nerja is surrounded by mountains and beaches and known for its protected climate, clear air, caves and magnificent view.

Most visitors find the Costa del Sol irresistible in the winter and there are fantastic deals to be found during the summer months Within walking distance are two 4-star hotels-Tamisa Golf and Hotel Byblos, bars and restaurants, park with bar/cafe and a free barbecue area. The lively town of Fuengirola with Costa del Sols longest stretch of beach and the best open-air market on the coast. is just 10 minutes away. It is an excellent shopping town, and has the added benefit of the huge new Miramar shopping centre and El Cortes Ingles. If you want to sample shopping in other places, Malaga, up-market Puerto Banus and Marbella are all about 25mins away. A drive of about 1 hour, will take you to Gibraltar where you will find plenty of duty free A short drive in either direction will take you to places such as Benalmadena, Torremolinos and Estepona. If you do not want to drive there is excellent public transport- A short drive inland is found the beautiful Andalucian village of Mijas. It is lovely to wander through the narrow cobbled streets of this Andalucian village where many artists and writers have settled. The craft shops have some wonderful hand made pottery and often affordable paintings and prints by acclaimed local artists, There are good restaurants and even a donkey taxi service. The views from the village are spectacular.
